I am Not Ashamed

I came across the "Not Ashamed" campaign today. It is a great idea. ‘NOT ASHAMED’ is an opportunity for Christians across the UK to stand together and to express their confidence that Jesus Christ is good news not just for individuals or for the church but for the nation as a whole. He is the only true hope for our society. Wednesday 1st December (a very appropriate date) 2010 has been designated ‘NOT ASHAMED’ day. It is the focal point of the initiative but the campaign will run throughout the Autumn and continue into Advent.

Between 1535 and 1681, over 600 Catholics died in England and Wales for the Catholic Faith. Here are the saints and blesseds that we remember on the 1st of December:

Blessed John Beche hanged, drawn, and quartered on 1 December 1539 at Colchester, England.
Saint Edmund Campion hanged, drawn, and quartered on 1 December 1581 at Tyburn, London, England.
Saint Nicholas Owen, also known as Little John tortured to death on 2 March 1606 in London, England, memorial 1st December.
Blessed Ralph Ashley hanged, drawn, and quartered on 7 April 1607 in Worcester, Worcestershire, England, memorial 1st December.
Blessed Richard Langley hanged on 1 December 1586 at York, England.
Saint Ralph Sherwin
hanged, drawn, and quartered on 1 December 1581 at Tyburn, London, England memorial 1st December.
Saint Thomas Garnet hanged, drawn, and quartered on 23 June 1608 at Tyburn, London, England Memorial 1 December.
