Pope John Paul II to become Patron of the Fraternity of St Genesius

Join us as we pray for cultural renewal. http://www.stgenesius.com/

Yesterday was Foundation Day for The Fraternity of St Genesius.  Four years ago a group gathered in Drogheda and the Fraternity was founded. Fr John Hogan returned to St Mary's in Drogheda to celebrate Mass last night. A new painting of St Genesius was blessed, I presume Fr Hogan will have a photo on his blog Ex Umbris Et Imaginibus . It was also announced that the late Pope John Paul II will become patron of the Fraternity after his beatification. What great news!

Fr Hogan announced, "Having consulted with the members of the Council of the Fraternity and having their unanimous agreement, it is our intention that, after his beatification, the then Blessed John Paul II will be proclaimed the secondary patron of the Fraternity of St Genesius.

We also intend, in accordance with the general liturgical norms, to make a formal application to the Congregation for Divine Worship and Sacraments to seek permission to allow the Fraternity celebrate the Blessed Pontiff's feast day. I would ask your prayers for the success of our request."

After Mass we also had the customary fraternity tea and buns in the parish centre. I was very restrained and ate some sandwiches and a meringue. My children on the other hand consumed huge quantities of meringues, buns, cakes, sweets and fizzy drinks, and as I type this, I am hoping and praying that no one throws up!

The Fraternity of St Genesius was founded in response to the call of the Servant of God, Pope John Paul II for members of the Church to participate in the renewal of culture as part of the New Evangelisation. This renewal needs our prayer and sacrifice, and that's exactly what we're doing. We offer daily prayer and sacrifice for those involved in the area of cinema and theatre. Almost one thousand people in 14 different countries, now commit to daily prayer as members of the fraternity. We believe in the power of prayer, even though we may never know the effects of our prayers. I invite you to join us. Don't just complain about the negative influence of celebrities,  television, the movie industry, or the arts etc. instead do something, and pray with us! http://www.stgenesius.com/
