Today is World Down Syndrome Day. World Down Syndrome Day takes place on 21 March every year. This date (21/3) represents the 3 copies of chromosome 21, which is unique to people with Down syndrome.

Ireland is one of those countries where we are blessed to see many people who have down syndrome. In other countries they are aborted! Diagnosis of Down Syndrome is the most common reason given for abortion in the UK. There are about 5,000 people in Ireland with Down syndrome. In Ireland, it is estimated that about one baby born in every 600 has Down syndrome. I hope and pray that Ireland will continue to be a safe place for all unborn children.

Today in Dublin, the first model agency representing people with Down syndrome has been launched, to coincide with World Down Syndrome Day. It has been set up to promote representation for people with Down syndrome in the fields of fashion, media and entertainment. I'm Able 2 Model http://imable2model.com/ is an initiative of Irish charity, Down Syndrome Centre in conjunction with 1st Option Model Management, one of Ireland's leading model agencies. The agency currently has 20 clients on its books. So go check it out!

If you want to read a very moving birth story, click here. It is the story of little Nella Cordelia, told by her mother Kelle. It is beautiful, it is brutally honest, and it is truly moving. Kelle is a photographer so there are loads of photos, but be warned, have a very big box of tissues on hand! I challenge you to read this and not cry!
